Since selling my candles with the launch back in August 8, 2020 – 7 months have gone by and I felt compelled to share my findings on the top scents sold at Mind Mana Creations.

I originally wanted to pick approximately a dozen max of scents to work with. Of course, I realized I am a fragrance oil addict – and whenever I saw a new scent available, I went ahead and bought it just to test it out. 50+ fragrance bottles later, I guess I can say, I love my fragrance oil a bit much.

The majority of my fragrance oils come from Candlescience, followed by a few from California Candle Supply (Beach Sage) and Bulk Apothecary (Pikake).

Other candlemakers out there, where do you buy your fragrance oils for your candle making needs?

The Top Popular Scents Sold at Mind Mana Creations

The most popular category is:

Ocean Scents

Not surprisingly, the ocean-related scents all did well. These included:

Sea Salt and Orchid

Top: Sea Salt, Ozone
Middle: Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Green Leaves
Base: Wood, Tonka Bean

High Tide

Top: Ozone, Citrus
Middle: Sea Salt, Jasmine
Base: Violet, Cedar, Powder, Light Musk

Black Sea

Top: Citrus, Sea Salt, Ozone
Middle: Plum, Cardamom
Base: Amber, Dark Musk

Beach Sage

Top: Fresh Greens
Middle: Spearmint, Rose, Lily
Base: Soft Musk

Why I wasn’t surprised by this is because the majority of my creations included one of those above scents, or a combination of one of them mixed with another fragrance oil (usually I combine them in a 50/50 proportion).

Since Mind Mana Creations is based out of Oahu, Hawaii – much of my candle creations had an ocean-theme to them. Much of my Dreaming of Hawaii collection has those scents, include Stay Salty (Black Sea) and On a Beach in Hawaii (Sea Salt and Orchid with Pikake).

As well, the Salt Water Vibes collection along with my Lemuria collection contains many of the ocean related scents from above.

The next most popular category is:

Floral Scents

The most popular floral scents that performed well include:

Plumeria

Top: Green Leaves, Guava
Middle: Plumeria, Jasmine, Gardenia
Base: Powder

Pikake (Jasmine Flower)

Top: Orange Blossom
Middle: Jasmine
Base: Vanilla

White Sage and Lavender

Top: Lavender
Middle: Camphor, Chamomile, Sage, Rosemary
Base: Sandalwood, Cedarwood

I had created limited quantities of the above scents directly in 4oz Just Scented candles and the first two, Plumeria and Pikake immediately sold out quickly. The interest in those floral scents probably comes from wanting tropical-based floral candles, as those two flowers are popularly found in Hawaii with floral leis you get when you get off an airplane on the islands.

As of March 2021, I haven’t had time or chance yet to restock the Plumeria and Pikake scents in more 4oz and 8oz tin sizes, stay tuned for more of those to come!

Following the floral scents comes the citrus and fruity based scents that people popularly bought at Mind Mana Creations includes:

Citrus & Fruity Scents

Mango and Coconut Milk

Top: Pineapple, Orange
Middle: Mango, Peach
Base: Coconut Milk, Sugar

Strawberry Guava

Top: Strawberry, Guava
Middle: Passionfruit, Mango
Base: Vanilla, Peach, Sugar

Frosted Juniper

Top: Ozone, Camphor, Citrus
Middle: Pine, Red Currant, Berry, Pear, Cherry Blossom
Base: Juniper, Sage

By far, the top above three are the ones most loved by Mind Mana Creations customers! Again, similarly to the Plumeria and Pikake scents, I have trouble keeping up with the demand for the Mango and Coconut Milk, Strawberry Guava, and Frosted Juniper in the 4oz Just Scented candles. Again stay tuned as I will soon be restocking the 4oz and 8oz sizes.

The Mango and Coconut Milk can be popularly found in the Pau Hana candle within the Dreaming of Hawaii collection. When I first smelled this scent, it definitely reminded me of having an after work drink in hand or sipping a pina colada at happy hour in Waikiki on a Friday evening.

The Strawberry Guava is popularly found in the Love candle. How I knew this scent was popular was when I was selling at The Surfjack back in February 2021, customers always commented back to this wonderful scent.

And lastly, the Frosted Juniper scent is one that I commonly associate with the Air Sign candles. The Frosted Juniper has an overall fresh airy winter forest smell, but with a citrus top to it.

After the citrus and fruity scents, the last category with popular demand includes:

Earthy & Musk Scents

Egyptian Amber

Top: Ozone, Jasmine
Middle: Leather, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Tonka Bean
Base: Amber, Dark Musk, Light Musk, Powder

Oakmoss and Amber

Top: Sage, Orange, Grapefruit
Middle: Lavender
Base: Oakmoss, Amber, Tonka Bean

Cypress and Bayberry

Top: Eucalyptus
Middle: Cypress, Moss, Bayberry
Base: Incense, Patchouli, Fir

Peppermint and Eucalyptus

Top: Eucalyptus, Peppermint
Middle: Cedar, Clove
Base: Patchouli, Vanilla, Powder

The Egyptian Amber definitely has a musk scent to it that was very much popular with the Protection candles I created. I’m currently also sold out of those types of candles as of March 2021, but have plans to have more of those candles to come out soon!

The Oakmoss and Amber is an earthy scent that surprised me as that was a popularly chosen scent at the in-person night market selling event at The Surfjack. The candle creation I used it in was The Escape the Matrix candle (also sold out at moment as of March 2021). Stay tuned as I’ll be introducing this scent to more candle creations. The newer 4oz Earth Sign amber jar candles have this scent.

Lastly, both the Cypress and Bayberry and Peppermint and Eucalyptus scents both performed well in the Intention candle collection for the Wealth candles. One of the Wealth candles has the Cypress and Bayberry version (with Emerald crystal chips) and the other Wealth candle has Peppermint and Eucalyptus version (with Tiger’s Eye crystal chips).

Now that 2021 is underway, I’m looking forward to updating the second edition of My Top Popular Scents at Mind Mana Creations.

What scents do you expect to be most popular for 2021?
